SMILE: A platform for strengthening the mental health of young people
Psychological distress present serious issues in a society that is rapidly changing, particularly for young people and their families. Adolescents can experience a variety of outcomes as a result of stress, yet timely support is not always assured. For young people in particular, stigma and embarrassment can be a barrier to talking about what their experiences and needs and there can be significant regional differences in the available options and approaches for symptom management.
In order to solve these problems, the SMILE project is creating an Open Knowledge Platform (OKP) that will provides# digital resources for children, teens, and young adults (between the ages of 10 and 24). With the integration of virtual self-monitoring in feelings, thoughts and behaviours and the relationships between these, these AI-tools offer a gamified environment that is specifically focused on mental health. Furthermore, the goal of SMILE is to provide better methods to facilitate resilience, promote cognitive flexibility, teach coping mechanisms and social competence, as well as teach young people how to manage negative thoughts. Additionally, the project seeks to raise awareness of young people’s mental health issues and provide parents, educators, decision-makers, and health professionals with access to specialized knowledge regarding mental stress.
